A page from the first edition in Latin of the Nuremberg Chronicle, or Liber Chronicarum, one of the most important incunabula ever produced. The compiler, Nuremberg humanist and physician Hartmann Schedel (1440-1514), was commissioned to produce the work as a history of the world from creation to his own time. Published in 1493 by Anton Koberger (c. 1440-1513), the work was elaborately illustrated by Michael Wolgemut (c. 1434/37-1519) and Wilhelm Pleydenwurff (c. 1450-1494). This page includes three portraits, two of which are identified as St. Clara and St. Anthony of Padua. The page is matted and framed. Condition: Very Good. Slight age-toning and minor foxing, Very minor scuffing to frame; several punctures and tears to the black paper covering the back of the frame (one of which has been taped over). Not examined out of frame. Dimensions 17.625 x 24.5 inches.
