Inscribed in pencil on ffep to Ralph Richardson, famed and knighted British author, from his first wife, Kit. Also with Richardson's bookplate (as simply 'R R'), not attached. Light edgewear to boards, bottom fore corner lightly frayed, small areas of staining to rear board, chipping to cloth at ends of spine, cracking along hinges, agetoning to spine and top edge of boards. Switzerland: Privately published by Lavater, 1788. G+/no DJ 32mo [3 1/8" x 4 1/4"] in gray wraps, blank spine. Evident shelfwear; wraps quite foxed chipped at corners, head of spine, torn at spine. Some scattered foxing throughout. Lavater's name and personal motto written in his hand on title page. Previous owner's name in ink on inside of front wrap. Although aged, the paper is still flexible and the signatures are securely sewn together. This rare treatise contains 500 of Lavater's maxims on physiognomy and casuistry, an expansion on the earlier 1787 edition. Shelved in Netdesk office, on bookshelf left of workstation.

Evident shelfwear; bumped and rubbed at corners, along edges and at head and tail of spine. Losses to leather along front hinge; previously repaired with brown cloth bridge. Some shelfwear; DJ age toned and a bit turned along edges and at corners, now in mylar. Boards slightly bumped at corners, head and tail of spine. Interior clean and bright, binding solid. Included is a letter to Sir Ralph Richardson, signed by Priestly and printed on his personal letterhead. Sir R. Richardson's bookplate is also included. Shelved Case #9 [Rilke] DUPONT.

Both textblocks are quite acidic, foxing present especially on illustrated plates, loose signature in volume 2. Interiors clean, as-is. Some shelfwear; a bit bumped and rubbed at corners, along edges and at head and tail of spine. Leather at hinges cracking, front board detatched yet present. VG. 16mo in red cloth boards, title on spine in gilt, black patterning to front board, spine has 4 raised bands. minor edgewear to boards, rear board bumped and with indeterminate light-colored staining, small area of cloth abraded to reveal boards beneath to front board. Design-patterned endpages and marbled textblock. Tearing beginning to front and rear gutters, binding slightly loose but intact. Corners of textblock lightly rubbed, bottom and fore edges lightly bumped. Pages very lightly agetoned but clean.
