This applies to all three volumes unless otherwise noted: Octavo; Fair-/no-DJ; Black spine with formerly gilt text, now just indentations remain; Quarter-bound covers with marbled boards, considerable shelfwear and edgewear, covers edgeworn and chipped, severe rubbing at corners, exposing the boards (if not missing), and at ends of spine, some chipping at ends of spine as well, the front and back cover marbled boards are generally clean, but are worn in clustered patches; Textblock darkened by age, moderate-to-heavy foxing prevalent throughout text, pages stiff, difficult to turn, slight musty odor, several pages have small tears and/or bent corners, top edge coloring faded and patchy, light-to-moderate foxing along the fore and tail edges; pp. Vol. 1: 320; Vol. 2: 348; Vol. 3: 339. Individual Volume Notes: *Vol. 1: Front cover separated and partially detached; Front cover corners worn down to the boards, back cover tail corner worn down to the board, top corner missing; Top of spine missing, textblock exposed. Octavos; Fair; Brown leather spine swith red label, gilt text and gilt bands on top and below the labels; Half leather covers with marbled boards with significant shelfwear and edgewear, boards edgeworn, chipping along head and tail edges, considerable rubbing at corners and ends of spine, top layer of spine's leather binding nearly worn completely off - betraying the luster of well-maintained leather - some evidence of original raised bands still remains, labels intact, front and back cover leather edges and leather corners in better condition than spines, although leather still displays evidence of distress, the front and back cover marbled boards are generally clean, but are worn in clustered patches, all four corners of the the half binding somehow extend .5" beyond the leather, leading to raised and warped marbled strips paralleling the edge of the leather corners; Textblock darkened by age, moderate-to-heavy foxing prevalent throughout text, pages stiff, difficult to turn, slight musty odor, dark staining at corners of pastedowns - on reverse side of leather and marble board corners, several pages have small tears, top edge coloring faded and patchy, decorative staining along the fore and tail edges faded, light-to-moderate foxing is more prevalent, previous owners' bookplate affixed to front pastedown, name of another previous owner stamped on front free-end paper, name of likely original owner inscribed on title page; pp Vol. 1: 339; pp Vol. 2: 366; pp Vol. 3: 370. Individual Volume Notes: *Vol. 1 only, there is a crack in the binding along the spine and the front cover board, there is no separation, but the signatures are partially visible. *A page each in Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 is uncut. *Vol. 2 & 3 have loose signatures, in Vol. 2: the last signature is partially detached. *Vol 2 has a large stain along the top edge near the corner. shelved case 13.
