G/no DJ thick Sextodecimo in full brown goat with gilt fillet, gilt text and five raised bands on spine, all edges gilt. Evident shelf wear; bumped, chipped and worn at corners, along edges and at head and tail of spine--headbands exposed. Boards rubbed and scuffed, especially along joints, edges and bands; some loss of finish on spine. Clasps missing, but partial hardware remains. Previous owner's bookplate on front paste down. Fading along edges of end papers where dentelle meets the page. Binder's stamp indicates this volume was by Douglas Cockerell in 1901 for Essex House [the press founded by C. R. Ashbee that took in the craftsman from Morris's Kelmscott Press after its dissolution]. 426 pp. + colophon. Interior clean and bright, binding solid. Shelved Rilke Case.
